Presentation

The Lycée Français de La Havane ‘Alejo Carpentier’ has an agreement with the AEFE (Agence pour l’Enseignement Français à l’Etranger). Founded in 1972 under the aegis of the French Embassy, the school started out with around a hundred students and now has just over 130 students from around thirty countries.

With the accreditation of the Seconde class in 2018, the school has become a lycée, with a head teacher at the helm for the first time.

All pupils learn Spanish as a foreign language from nursery school. On entering CP, they learn English as a second foreign language.

A language reinforcement programme has been set up for non-French and non-Spanish-speaking pupils. Multilingualism is one of the objectives of the school project.

Pupils benefit from a pleasant environment, optimal working conditions combining academic excellence and openness to the world, and direct access to Cuba’s characteristic cultural diversity.

EDUCATIONAL ORGANISATION CHART

Like all schools under agreement with the AEFE, the lycée provides quality teaching in line with the requirements of the French Ministry of Education.

  • Application of national curricula to ensure continuity of learning across establishments in France and in the network of approved establishments worldwide.
  • Access to national examinations and the Parcours Sup platform as part of their career planning in France.
  • Support for students in their Future, Citizenship, Culture and Health pathways

An educational pathway from nursery school to the end of secondary school

The school caters for pupils from Nursery to Year 12. Cuban students with dual nationality are entitled to attend.

Initially created on a single site, teaching is now shared between 2 sites a few hundred metres apart: a nursery-elementary school and a secondary school.

À partir de la rentrée 2021 ouverture officielle des sections internationales espagnoles à l’élémentaire et au collège, et d’une Section BACHIBAC au lycée

Language certifications

Students have the option of taking a certificate in Spanish with the Instituto Cervantes, in English with Cambridge Assessment English or in French with Alliance Française. The level obtained is then certified and constitutes an international reference according to the European Framework for Languages (CEFR).
